Do mathematicians and undergraduates agree about explanation quality?

چکیده
Abstract Offering explanations is a central part of teaching mathematics, and understanding those vital activity for learners. Given this, it natural to ask what makes good mathematical explanation. This question has received surprisingly little attention in the mathematics education literature, perhaps because field no agreed method by which explanation quality can be reliably assessed. In this paper, we explore issue asking whether mathematicians undergraduates agree with each other about quality. A corpus 10 produced was used. Using comparative judgement method, analysed 320 paired comparisons from 16 32 undergraduate students. We found that both were able assess set explanations. Furthermore, assessments largely consistent across two groups. Implications theories are discussed. conclude arguing promising technique exploring

Do older patients and their family caregivers agree about the quality of chronic illness care?
OBJECTIVE Family caregivers often accompany patients to medical visits; however, it is unclear whether caregivers rate the quality of patients' care similarly to patients. This study aimed to (1) quantify the level of agreement between patients' and caregivers' reports on the quality of patients' care and (2) determine how the level of agreement varies by caregiver and patient characteristics. ...
متن کاملTeaching Undergraduates About LGBTQ Identities, Families, and Intersectionality: Teaching Undergraduates
Teaching undergraduate students about LGBTQ identities and family issues presents several challenges, or “opportunities,” which we address within personal, ecological, and historical contexts. We begin by articulating our positionality as scholars and instructors, and the feminist intersectional and queer lens that guides our research and pedagogy. We organize our presentation of contemporary t...
متن کاملDo patients and providers agree about the most important facts and goals for breast reconstruction decisions?
UNLABELLED Decisions about breast reconstruction after mastectomy are some of the most difficult decisions a breast cancer patient makes. To make a good decision, the patient should have adequate knowledge of specific facts related to the decision, and the treatment chosen should be consistent with the patient's personal preferences or goals. We sought to identify the most important facts and g...

متن کاملAttending Icu Physicians And Residents Do Not Agree About The Applicability of Advance Directives
Introduction In Germany, advance directives (AD) are written documents explaining what medical treatment the individual would prefer in the future, should that individual lack mental capacity. AD are legally binding. When a patient has lost mental capacity, the treating physician judges whether the AD is applicable or not. The AD is applicable if the patient’s present condition matches the clin...
